Lakewood (Colo.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 12 in Colorado, but was stunned by
Chatfield (Littleton, Colo.), 29-6. Chatfield was ranked at No. 34 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Colorado coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a
Brendan Murphy touchdown run in the first quarter, the Chargers led 15-6 at the half.
Chatfield expanded its lead to 16 points entering the fourth quarter. CHS's lone score in the quarter came on a
Kyle Winkler touchdown pass to
Race Fenimore.
A 7-point fourth quarter was enough to cement the win for the Littleton school, as it pushed the final margin of victory to 23.
Winkler played well for the Chargers in the victory. The sophomore quarterback threw three touchdowns.
The Tigers'
Sean Pinson-Boogs played well. The sophomore running back ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to five on the year.
Lakewood's lone touchdown came on a 9-yard run by Pinson-Boogs in the second quarter.
The loss comes after Lakewood defeated Fairview 51-29 last week. With the win Chatfield extended its winning streak to four games.
Chatfield (4-1) will play a 5A Super 6 game against Columbine next week, while Lakewood (3-2) will take on Bear Creek also in a 5A Super 6 game.
