After six games on the road, Thornton is heading back home. They will take on the Thornridge Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Thornton didn't have too much breathing room in their game against the Kays, but they still walked away with a 59-54 win. Given Thornton's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while the Kays are ranked 32nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Thornton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Morez Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Chase Abraham was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Thornridge was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 70-66 to the Warriors. Thornridge has not had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Thornton pushed their record up to 21-3 with that win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Thornridge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which is still a better percentage than their 4-20 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Thornton against the Falcons when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 77-34 victory. With Thornton ahead 40-16 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
