Toledo had to travel to play their first game of the season, and the final result was worth the trip. They took their game against Nestucca on Friday 29-18.
Sophomore Donny Villanueva, who rushed for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns, was a major factor in the success. Villanueva was a defensive playmaker as well with a menacing 3 sacks. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse senior Jacob Rogers, who racked up 9 tackles.
Nestucca's loss came about despite a quality game from junior Ben Hurliman, who rushed for 78 yards and 1 touchdown. On the defensive end, senior Josh Seals was a one-man blockade for they with 3 sacks and 9 tackles. This was the first game for both teams, giving Toledo a 1-0 record and starting Nestucca off at 0-1.
Toledo will be defending their home turf for the first time next week when they go up against Knappa at 7:00 PM. Nestucca are packing up and heading on the road for the first time this season. They face off against Lowell next week at 7:00 PM.
