The Mt. Vernon Rams won the last time they faced the Herrin Tigers, and things went their way on Saturday too. Mt. Vernon took down Herrin 55-41. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Mt. Vernon.
Navontae D nesbit jr. was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Mt. Vernon's points. Another player making a difference was David Barnes, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Mt. Vernon pushed their record up to 15-5 with that win, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.2 points per game. As for Herrin, their loss dropped their record down to 13-5.
Mt. Vernon will take on Charleston at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Charleston will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 340th, while Mt. Vernon is ranked 66th). As for Herrin, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hamilton County at 7:30 p.m.
