Baseball Recap: Fairmont Triumphs

Nine must be Fairmont's lucky number: they beat Springfield with that score not once but twice on Monday. The Firebirds beat the Wildcats by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 9-3. The win continues a trend for the Firebirds in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won seven in a row.

Tyler Mastro made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Mastro was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Fairmont is undefeated when Mastro posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Schyler Zent was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Miles Osterfeld was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.

Fairmont's record now sits at 13-9. As for Springfield, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Fairmont is set to challenge their familiar foe Springboro at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Springfield will take on rival Beavercreek at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
