Basketball Game Preview: Providence Day Chargers vs. Charlotte Christian Knights

Providence Day is 10-0 against Charlotte Christian since February of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Providence Day Chargers will square off against the Charlotte Christian Knights at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Providence Day has six straight wins, Charlotte Christian has 12 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Providence Day is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of North Carolina's top teams: Cannon, who was ranked fifth at the time (Providence Day was ranked 23rd). Providence Day sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-40 victory over Cannon on Friday. That's two games straight that the Chargers have won by exactly two points.

Providence Day can attribute much of their success to Ginny Anne Dumont, who posted 16 points and six boards, and Ellie Fyans, who earned eight points and six rebounds. Dumont is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Marlo Stuart also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Christian was beaten by Charlotte Country Day School 66-18 on Friday.

Providence Day pushed their record up to 22-7 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Charlotte Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-17.

Everything came up roses for Providence Day against Charlotte Christian when the teams last played back in January, as the squad secured a 52-5 victory. In that contest, Providence Day amassed a halftime lead of 36-5, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
