Baseball Recap: Bryant Has No Trouble Against Long Island City

Bryant won the last time they faced Long Island City and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Owls blew past the Bulldogs 12-2. The Owls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.

Edwin Abreu made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Bryant is 2-1 when Abreu allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Abreu was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Christian Cepin, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Emmanuel Pichardo was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

The win got Bryant back to even at 5-5. As for Long Island City, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

When Bryant and Long Island City next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Owls will try to stop Aviation's six-game winning streak when they meet at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bryant 3.3, the Flyers 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Long Island City will challenge Academy of American Studies and their eight-game winning streak at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
