North Central Kansas recap Oct. 3, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Clay Center, who took down 66th ranked Clay Center, 19-8.
Wamego extended the longest winning streak in North Central Kansas this week by beating Abilene, 41-20. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Red Raiders.
The Tigers' dynamic duo of Caleb Carson and Dalton Haist proved tough for Chapman to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Carson threw for 63 yards and Haist had 35 yards receiving. Rett Girton helped Clay Center's passing attack out by catching two balls for 15 yards.
Ricky Huse made the biggest impact on defense this week as Clay Center lost to the Fighting Irish. The 5-foot-9 sophomore recorded one fumble.
Drake Hake was the most productive running back in the league this week. In eight carries, he ran for 133 yards as Concordia lost to Chapman. Teammate Trevor Nordell added to the ground attack by rushing for 100 yards.
Clay Center's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Carson has thrown for 270 yards and two touchdowns this season, while Jordan Bosch has nine catches for 136 yards. Carson also leads the league in rushing with 713 yards.
The top two teams in North Central Kansas will face off this week when first place Wamego takes on second place Clay Center. Wamego bested the Cowboys last week, while the Tigers lost to Jeff Schwinn's team.
The Fighting Irish made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,196 from 6,706. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 19-8 victory over Clay Center last week.
