The Poly Bears will head out to take on the Liberty Bison at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Poly will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Poly is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of California's top teams: Valley View, who was ranked 25th at the time (Poly was ranked 24th). The Bears never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory on Tuesday.
The result came thanks to Marley Audoma's shutout, as she gave up just five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brookelyn Duerfeldt, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. Cassandra Ayala was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Liberty earned a 7-2 win over Hemet on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bison.
Janessa Guigliano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Attiana Thompson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheri LeDoux, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Liberty's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Poly, their record now sits at 18-6-1.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Poly hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
