Softball Recap: Churchill County Now 8-1 over Last Nine Games

Churchill County had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They never let the Sports Leadership & Management Bulls get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Greenwave, who have now won 14 matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Janessa Bettencourt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dana Buckmaster, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Taraylynn Vershum was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Churchill County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are 13-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Churchill County is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Sports Leadership & Management, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 23-7.

Churchill County and Sports Leadership & Management are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Greenwave will take on Fernley at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The Vaqueros' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Churchill County's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Sports Leadership & Management, they will challenge Boulder City at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
