Tyler Birdsall of Athens ran for the longest rushing play in Northern Tier - Large this season against Troy last week. Birdsall's team bested the Trojans as he sprinted for 79 yards on the play and finished with 223 in all.
Athens extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Troy, 35-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for Jack Young's team.
North Penn's dynamic duo of Taylor Hillson and Sam Bohnert proved tough for Hughesville to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hillson threw for 173 yards and Bohnert had 65 yards receiving. Bryce Zaparzynski helped North Penn's passing attack out by catching three balls for 47 yards.
The Panthers' Hillson and Bohnert have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hillson has thrown for 783 yards this season, while Bohnert, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 17 catches for 373 yards. Birdsall from the Wildcats leads the league in rushing with 598 yards.
A big matchup in Northern Tier - Large this week will be when Wellsboro takes on Athens. As it stands, the Hornets are in third, while the Wildcats are in second.
Wellsboro took down Columbia Montour Vo-Tech 44-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
