Softball Game Preview: Kimball Union Academy Wildcats vs. Holderness Bulls

The Kimball Union Academy Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Holderness Bulls at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Kimball Union Academy has five straight wins, Holderness has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Wednesday, Kimball Union Academy got the win against Winchendon by a conclusive 17-7. Considering the Wildcats have won five games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Adi Runge made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

In other batting news, Leila Portugal was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with six stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Zoie Stevens, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Kimball Union Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .394 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Tilton School hit Holderness with a four-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bulls came up short against the Rams, falling 11-1. That's two games in a row now that the Bulls have lost by exactly ten runs.

Kimball Union Academy pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Holderness, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
