Oasis Academy has gone a perfect 3-0 against Sierra Lutheran recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Oasis Academy Bighorns will square off against the Sierra Lutheran Falcons at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Oasis Academy has three straight wins, Sierra Lutheran has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Oasis Academy made easy work of Incline and carried off an 8-1 victory. Fans of the Bighorns have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Matthew Bird was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero hits, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Oasis Academy got a big performance out of Joshua Gusewelle, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. Gusewelle is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Kayden White, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Oasis Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Sierra Lutheran came up short against West Wendover on Saturday and fell 6-1. The game marked the Falcons' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Sierra Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4-1. As for Oasis Academy, their record is now 3-0.
Sierra Lutheran's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Oasis Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .405. It's a different story for Sierra Lutheran, though, as they've only averaged .214. Will they be able to contain Oasis Academy's hitters?
Oasis Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Sierra Lutheran when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 9-7. Will Oasis Academy repeat their success, or does Sierra Lutheran have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
