Gatewood is 2-8 against Piedmont Academy since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Gatewood Gators will look to defend their home court against the Piedmont Academy Cougars at 5:30 p.m. Gatewood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 300th, while Piedmont Academy is ranked 117th).
Last Friday, Gatewood came up short against Brentwood and fell 56-48. Gatewood has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Piedmont Academy scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They really took it to Westminster Christian Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 73-41 victory at home. With Piedmont Academy ahead 41-18 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
It was another big night for Marissa Holder, who shot 5-for-9 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 28 points and 18 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sarah Ellen Stroud, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Gatewood has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season. As for Piedmont Academy, their win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-9.
