The Frankfort Redbirds will head out on the road to face off against the Century Centurions at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Frankfort is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 15-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Even though Frankfort has not done well against the Wildcats recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Frankfort walked away with a 49-41 victory over the Wildcats.
Meanwhile, Century struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Blackcats had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Century was beaten by the Blackcats 67-39. While losing is never fun, Century can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 392nd, while the Blackcats are ranked 98th).
Despite their loss, Century saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Karleigh Jones, who scored 12 points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Jones is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hayden Anderson, who scored five points.
Frankfort's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-25. As for Century, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-4.
Everything came up roses for Frankfort against the Centurions in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 65-28 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Frankfort since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
