Edcouch-Elsa had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 5-10 to make it five. They lost 15-8 to the Pace Vikings. The Yellowjackets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vikings earlier this season, when they won 11-2.
Jacob Uvalle put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Uvalle was even better at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Nathan Garza made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Brandon Ibarra also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Pace, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-10 record. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.
Like Edcouch-Elsa, Pace also got a great game from a two-way player: Isaac Solis. On the mound, Solis struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Abraham Gutierrez pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Solis has posted over his last five matchups. At bat, Solis went 1-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, while Gutierrez went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Solis has become a key player for Pace: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-9 otherwise.
In other batting news, Francisco Galaviz was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2025. Nathan Horner was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Edcouch-Elsa will square off against rival Weslaco East at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Pace is set to challenge their familiar foe Lopez at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
