4A Southwestern recap Oct. 9, 2012
Butler extended the longest winning streak in 4A Southwestern this week by beating Ardrey Kell, 49-0. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Providence made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,096 from 3,482. The improvement was the result of 28-21 victory over Myers Park last week.
The Mustangs' dynamic duo of Ross Jeffries and Shakeal O'Bryant proved tough for the Panthers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Jeffries threw for 168 yards and one touchdown and O'Bryant had 65 yards receiving. Jontavius Hall helped Myers Park's passing attack out by catching five balls for 44 yards.
Deron Davis was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 105 yards on 16 carries as Rocky River fell to Providence.
Independence's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Patriots feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Jason Connella has thrown for 1127 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, while Dequan Barnes has 29 catches for 542 yards. Isiah Robinson leads the league in rushing with 901 yards.
Independence's Robinson needs only 99 yards against the Ravens next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in 4A Southwestern this week will be when Rocky River takes on the Patriots. Jason Fowler's team is currently in third, while Independence is in second.
There should be lots of points scored when the Ravens and Bill Geiler's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Rocky River comes in having scored 211 this season, while the Patriots have scored 262. The Ravens scored 7 points last week as they topped East Mecklenburg.
Independence led the league in scoring this week after putting up 98 points on South Mecklenburg.
