The Kell Longhorns will head out on the road to face off against the Chattahoochee Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Kell will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Kell stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They breezed by North Springs on the road to the tune of 57-24. Given Kell's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 48th, while North Springs is ranked 361st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kell's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryce Clavon, who threw for 229 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes. Kyle Vaka also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Chattahoochee pushed their score all the way to 38 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Greater Atlanta Christian by a score of 41-38.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Luke Priester, who threw for 210 yards and three touchdowns. Priester is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was DJ Avery, who gained 105 total yards and three touchdowns.
Kell's win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-7 North Springs and 2-7 Pope (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 30.6% over those games). As for Chattahoochee, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
Everything went Kell's way against Chattahoochee when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as Kell made off with a 35-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kell since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
