The South Garner Titans pushed their score all the way to 65 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 69-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Clayton. South Garner has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
South Garner's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Najai Hines, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. Jayden Littles was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, South Garner smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clayton only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
It was another big night for Justice Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds for Clayton. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mitchell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Andrew Grimes, who scored 18 points.
South Garner's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Clayton, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-4.
South Garner will head out on the road to challenge the Storm at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Willow Spring knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully the Titans like a good challenge. As for Clayton, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. Garner is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
