Madelyn Hopper made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lyla Mahan, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and five RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Katie Terry, who went 2-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Montpelier was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Patrick Henry came out on top against Carey on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run sixth inning. The Patriots walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Blue Devils.
Faith Meyer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Mariah Boyer was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Haylee Haas was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Montpelier's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Patrick Henry, their win bumped their record up to 19-4.
Patrick Henry's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Montpelier has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Patrick Henry, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Montpelier's sizable advantage in that area, the Patriots will need to find a way to close that gap.
Montpelier took their victory against Patrick Henry when the teams last played back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Locomotives repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
