Will Stillinger was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colson Loadholt, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. He has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Landon Williams, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Orangeburg Prep had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 11-4 victory.
Like Jefferson Davis Academy, Orangeburg Prep also got a great game from a two-way player: Bryson Williams. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Williams was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Tilden Riley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Morrison Burroughs was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Orangeburg Prep's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Jefferson Davis Academy, their record is now 11-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Jefferson Davis Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Orangeburg Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
