The Nebraska City Pioneers suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Malcolm on the road and fell 64-18. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Nebraska City has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Nebraska City had strong showings from Malayna L madsen, who scored nine points, and Tarryn Godsey, who scored five points along with six rebounds and five blocks. Godsey hasn't dropped below two blocks for seven straight games.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Nebraska City struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Malcolm racked up 18 assists.
Malcolm was led to victory by Abby Zegar and Halle Dolliver. Zegar scored five points along with seven assists and seven rebounds, while Dolliver dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Dolliver has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Mckenna Powell was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Nebraska City dropped their record down to 3-10 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.3 points per game. As for Malcolm, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Nebraska City will head out on the road to challenge Conestoga at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Malcolm, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Wahoo at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Wahoo is ranked 52nd, while Malcolm is ranked 46th).
