After a string of three wins, the Somerset Academy Losee Lions's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of Legacy by a score of 59-56. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Somerset Academy Losee came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Legacy is ranked 54th).
Despite the loss, Somerset Academy Losee still got an impressive performance from Key Thrower, who scored 19 points along with 6 steals. The contest was Thrower's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Tia Cleveland was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Leading Legacy to victory were Ajalee Williams and Alabama Nieves. Williams dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Nieves scored 22 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Nieves has scored at least 25% of Legacy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Laila Gines, who scored 7 points along with 4 steals.
Somerset Academy Losee bumped their record down to 3-1 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Legacy, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-5.
Somerset Academy Losee will head out on the road to face off against Cheyenne at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Cheyenne focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Monday. As for Legacy, they will be playing at home against Amplus Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Amplus Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
