The Williston Mighty Red Devils will take on the Trenton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Williston is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They skirted past Fort Meade 4-2. The win continues a trend for the Mighty Red Devils in their matchups with the Miners: they've now won four in a row.
Emily Asencion spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on eight hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Jayla Coleman was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Baylee Cribbs, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Trenton owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They blew past Bronson 8-0. Considering the Tigers have won 18 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Addison Allaire's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 18 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addilynn Welbers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Emaleigh Philmon was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Trenton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bronson only posted an OBP of .120.
Trenton's victory bumped their record up to 22-3. As for Williston, their win bumped their record up to 13-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Williston has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Trenton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Williston suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Trenton in their previous matchup last Thursday. Can the Mighty Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
