The Edon Bombers will head out on the road to challenge the Pettisville Blackbirds at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Edon will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Edon had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt North Central on Tuesday. The Bombers blew past the Eagles 19-3. That looming 19-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bombers yet this season.
Makayla Anspaugh made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Anspaugh was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Nevaeh Smith was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Kaylynn Bartlett was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Edon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Pettisville came tearing into Tuesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Panthers as they made off with a 24-3 victory. Considering the Blackbirds have won six matches by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Macy Hoylman made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Naomi Richer was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Bennett, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Pettisville pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Edon, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-8.
Edon couldn't quite get it done against Pettisville in their previous meeting last Monday as they fell 13-8. Can the Bombers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
