Portage has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Cambria Heights Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Portage pushed their score all the way to 55 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Forest Hills at home by a decisive 74-55 margin. While losing is never fun, Portage can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 367th, while Forest Hills is ranked 128th).
Despite the loss, Portage had strong showings from Bode Layo, who scored 17 points, and Zachary Hodge, who scored six points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Hodge, who scored five points.
Cambria Heights suffered their biggest loss since December 2, 2023 on Thursday. They had to suffer through a rough 69-41 loss at the hands of United. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cambria Heights in their matchups with United: they've now lost six in a row.
Portage dropped their record down to 7-7 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Cambria Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.
Portage strolled past Cambria Heights in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a score of 59-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Portage since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
