West Lafayette came out on top against Benton Central on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Red Devils walked away with a 7-3 win over the Bison. Molly Mansfield made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Paola Eifler was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Eleanor Hurt, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Tri-County hadn't done well against North Newton recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Cavaliers put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Cavaliers, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like West Lafayette, Tri-County also got a great game from a two-way player: Madilyn Nevitt. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Nevitt was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reese Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Grace Kilmer also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Tri-County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 14 consecutive contests.
West Lafayette's record now sits at 12-3. As for Tri-County, their record is now 15-3.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. West Lafayette has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Tri-County struggles in that department as they've averaged .485. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Lafayette came up short against Tri-County when the teams last played back in May of 2025, falling 5-1. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
