The Madison Marlins have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 28 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Wisdom 79-34 at home. Given Madison's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 437th, while Wisdom is ranked 1587th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Devean Newton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with seven steals and six assists. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Avalos, who scored 13 points along with nine steals and three blocks.
Madison pushed their record up to 9-5 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.0 points per game. As for Wisdom, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.
Madison won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Washington at 6:00 p.m. on December 21st. One thing working in Washington's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Wisdom will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Forest on January 4, 2024.
