Basketball Game Preview: St. Charles Bulldogs vs. Breckenridge Huskies

St. Charles is 10-0 against Breckenridge since February of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. Both will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.

St. Charles is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Sacred Heart Academy on Friday. St. Charles took a 49-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sacred Heart Academy. The matchup marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Allison Zelinko, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Zelinko is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Nicole Zelinko was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Even though they lost, St. Charles smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Breckenridge suffered their closest loss since December 5, 2023 on Friday. They fell just short of Fulton by a score of 40-38.

Breckenridge's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for St. Charles, their loss ended a 15-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-4.

St. Charles didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Breckenridge in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 42-38 victory. Does St. Charles have another victory up their sleeve, or will Breckenridge turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
