The Mt. Zion Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 96-50 loss at the hands of McDonough. While losing is never fun, Mt. Zion can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 363rd, while McDonough is ranked 11th).
Despite the loss, Mt. Zion still got an impressive performance from Jaki Bell, who scored 23 points along with two steals. That was a full 46% of Mt. Zion's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Conner Hills was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
McDonough's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zion Greene, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Greene has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Zaiden Greene, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Mt. Zion has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season. As for McDonough, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-3.
Mt. Zion will be playing in front of their home fans against Drew at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Mt. Zion focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Tuesday. McDonough does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
