The Poetry Community Christian Pioneer on the road again on Friday and play against the First Baptist Saints at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Poetry Community Christian comes in on a streak of failing to score more than ten points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Poetry Community Christian's 23-6 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They took a serious blow against Garland Christian Academy back in December of 2023, falling 40-10.
Meanwhile, First Baptist waltzed into their match on Tuesday with 13 straight wins but they left with 14. They blew past Greenville Christian 69-8 at home. First Baptist has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 23 points or more this season.
First Baptist can attribute much of their success to Emily Kate Jones, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds, and Meredith Quinn, who scored 30 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Quinn has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolbie Gillispie, who scored ten points along with seven assists and three steals.
Poetry Community Christian's loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-7. As for First Baptist, their win bumped their record up to 19-3.
Poetry Community Christian ended up a good deal behind First Baptist in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, losing 50-36. Can Poetry Community Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
