New Paltz is 8-2 against Wallkill since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Huguenots will welcome the Panthers at 4:15 p.m. One thing working in New Paltz's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.
New Paltz will bounce into Monday's game after beating Roosevelt, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Huguenots were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Presidents on Wednesday. The Huguenots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by nine runs or more this season.
Ella Gates spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Molly Saunders was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Morales, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and three runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: New Paltz kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Wallkill posted their closest victory since April 10th on Wednesday. They skirted past Our Lady of Lourdes 7-6. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Grace Rodriguez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
New Paltz has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wallkill, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. New Paltz hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. However, it's not like Wallkill struggles in that department as they've averaged .349. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
New Paltz skirted past Wallkill 1-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Huguenots repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
