There's no place like home for the Largo Packers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against Lakewood by a score of 73-63 on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Largo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but David Newton led the charge by scoring 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Gavin Ellis was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Lakewood lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being David Larkin, who scored 21 points along with three steals. Larkin hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Davis, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Largo's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-10. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.6 points per game. As for Lakewood, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Largo will take on Seminole at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lakewood, they will head out on the road to challenge IMG Academy White on Monday. IMG Academy White has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
