The Clinton Arrows''s game on Friday was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a hard 42-28 fall against Tupelo. While losing is never fun, Clinton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Tupelo is ranked fifth).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tupelo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jeremiah Harrell, who threw for 278 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt. Another player making a difference was Jaeden Hill, who rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns.
Tupelo's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Jareylan Mccoy and his three sacks.
This is the second loss in a row for Clinton and nudges their season record down to 1-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-2 Starkville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 76.4% over those games). As for Tupelo, the win was the third in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clinton will take on Germantown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Germantown is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Tupelo will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Starkville at 7:00 p.m. on November 2nd.
