The Mariner Tritons will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Estero Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Mariner sitting on nine straight wins dating back to last season and Estero on six.
Mariner gave up the first points last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They snuck past North Fort Myers with a 27-23 win.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mariner to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaelan Davidson, who picked up 100 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Estero didn't have too much trouble with Key West at home on Friday as they won 28-9.
Malik Allen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 225 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. Allen was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards.
Mariner's win was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 7-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-7 Ida Baker and 1-6 North Fort Myers (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 29.5% over those games). As for Estero, their win on Friday bumped their record up to 6-1.
Mariner came up short against Estero when the teams last played back in September of 2021, falling 19-14. Thankfully for Mariner, Kendrick Agenor (who rushed for 225 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.2 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
