The Alexander Central Cougars were the 56-42 winner over the Ashe County Huskies when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Alexander Central fell to Ashe County 54-48. Alexander Central has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chad Lasher, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Fortner, who scored 11 points.
Even though they lost, Alexander Central were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ashe County only posted six assists.
Ashe County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Harrison Langdon led the charge by scoring 15 points. Ian Graybeal was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Alexander Central has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Ashe County, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.
Alexander Central will be playing at home against South Caldwell at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Caldwell presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Alexander Central in North Carolina (South Caldwell is ranked 149th, while Alexander Central is ranked 322nd). As for Ashe County, they will head out on the road to take on Hibriten at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hibriten is on a six-game streak of home losses, Ashe County a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
