The Norton Panthers will take on the Springfield Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Norton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Norton didn't have quite enough to beat Coventry and fell 7-6.
Gianna Calhoun made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Springfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They blew past Woodridge 13-2 on Monday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Lindzee Ritterbeck made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Ritterbeck was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one triple.
In other batting news, Breanna Ruggiero was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Emily Crytzer, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Springfield's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Norton, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Norton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Springfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .393. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Norton couldn't quite get it done against Springfield when the teams last played back in May of 2025 as they fell 8-3. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
