5A Region III District 24 recap October 1, 2013
Clear Falls scaled the state rankings by moving to 306 from 402 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region III District 24. The Knights climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Dickinson 17-13.
Clear Creek was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. The Wildcats vanquished Clear Lake 42-10 earlier in the week.
Clear Falls' dynamic duo of Alex Assarian and Ke'Shaun Holmes proved tough for the Gators to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Assarian threw for 184 yards and 2 touchdowns and Holmes had 76 yards receiving. John Humphrey helped Clear Falls' passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 51 yards.
He was 9-17 with 2 interceptions.
Thanks to the talents of Samuel Smith, III and Nicholas McGee, the Falcons have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Smith, III is tops in the league in passing with 812 yards, while McGee has rushed for 710 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Clear Springs's Matt Guidry, with 368 yards on 24 catches.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Clear Lake takes on Clear Brook. At the moment, Sam Smith's team is in fourth, while the Wolverines are in second.
Mike Zierlein's team and Dickinson played the closest game in 5A Region III District 24 this week, with Mike Zierlein's team eventually emerging with a 17-13 victory. Assarian during the win.
