The Independence Home School Lions had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They rang in the new year with a 76-65 victory over Ozanam. Independence Home School's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Independence Home School to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joe Young, who scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake GBusse, who scored 14 points.
Ozanam lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being A.W. Poke, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Talan Olmstead, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds.
Independence Home School's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Ozanam, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Independence Home School will head out on the road to face off against Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ozanam won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Christ Prep Academy at 12:00 p.m. on January 6th. Christ Prep Academy is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
