The Douglas Tigers came tearing into Monday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 54-50 W over Blackstone-Millville. Given Douglas' advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Blackstone-Millville is ranked 227th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Douglas' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adam Dunphy, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Josh Farrell, who scored 16 points.
Despite the defeat, Blackstone-Millville had strong showings from Jackson Dunton, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, and Karson Cournoyer, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Cournoyer scored 15 or more points.
Douglas pushed their record up to 6-4 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for Blackstone-Millville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-7.
Douglas will head out on the road to take on Nipmuc Regional at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Nipmuc Regional has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 399 points over their last six games. As for Blackstone-Millville, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Whitinsville Christian at 6:30 p.m.
