It was a good run, but the North Central Texas Academy Pioneers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 46-39 to Trinity Christian. While losing is never fun, North Central Texas Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 550th, while Trinity Christian is ranked 233rd).
Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kyrylo Nykyforenko, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Leonardo Jimenez, who scored eight points.
North Central Texas Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 15-11. As for Trinity Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-11 record this season.
North Central Texas Academy will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Bishop Lynch at 6:30 p.m. Bishop Lynch knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully North Central Texas Academy likes a good challenge. As for Trinity Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge Parish Episcopal at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Parish Episcopal has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
