The Valley Vista Monsoon will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge the Mesa Jackrabbits at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Valley Vista comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Valley Vista is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell 24-19 to Gila Ridge on Monday. Even if the Monsoon couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Alyse Quezada led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Addison Kennedy, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Mesa got the win against Maryvale on Monday by a conclusive 25-8.
Jada Porter and Mailyn Ortiz Cabezas made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Porter struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Ortiz Cabezas tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At the plate, Porter got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two triples, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Ortiz Cabezas fired off two home runs, three stolen bases, and four runs while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Porter is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played dating back to last season.
In other batting news, Mesa got a massive performance out of Dayvanee Hill, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. The dominant performance also gave Hill a new career-high in hits (three). Marely Garcia was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
Mesa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maryvale only managed nine.
Valley Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Mesa, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Valley Vista suffered a grim 31-11 defeat to Mesa in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. Can the Monsoon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
