Mater Academy East Las Vegas hasn't had much luck against Virgin Valley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights will host the Virgin Valley Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mater Academy East Las Vegas comes in on three and Virgin Valley on four.
Mater Academy East Las Vegas is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Moapa Valley, who was ranked 25th at the time (Mater Academy East Las Vegas was ranked 17th). Mater Academy East Las Vegas strolled past Moapa Valley with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 29-12.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas found their leader in sophomore Cheyanne Thornhill, who threw for 183 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 51 yards on only six carries. That's the most passing touchdowns Thornhill has posted since back in December of 2024. Jasmine White was another key player, rushing for 113 yards on only 13 carries.
Mater Academy East Las Vegas didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Leah Gomez-Vidal, Noelia Molina, and Lilibeth Rico Murillo picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, Virgin Valley put their dominant defense on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Wednesday. They beat Democracy Prep Agassi Campus by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 46-0. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won eight matches by 38 points or more so far this season.
Mater Academy East Las Vegas better keep an eye on Davie Slack. She was instrumental in Virgin Valley's win, throwing for 173 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing for 34 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Linita Kioa, who gained 122 total yards and two touchdowns.
Virgin Valley pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 3.1 points per game. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Thornhill and Slack. Thornhill just won't slow down this season and has thrown 22 touchdowns while averaging 146.1 passing yards per game. Slack has been a dominant force too and has thrown 39 touchdowns (and and only 4 picks) while averaging 168.2 passing yards per game.
Mater Academy East Las Vegas was taken down by Virgin Valley 46-0 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Slack, who threw for 228 yards and six touchdowns, and also rushed for 53 yards and one touchdown on only five carries.
