The Watkins Memorial Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Independence 76ers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
After soaring to 34 points the game before, Watkins Memorial were a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They suffered a tough 31-6 defeat at the hands of Granville. While losing is never fun, Watkins Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 224th, while Granville is ranked 110th).
Meanwhile, Independence had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They put the hurt on Walnut Ridge with a sharp 54-30 win. The result was nothing new for Independence, who have now won four matchups by 24 points or more so far this season.
Donte Truss was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 50 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 141 yards and a touchdown while completing 73.3% of his passes. Omega Waller got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Watkins Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Independence, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 5-5.
