The Thomas More Prep-Marian Monarchs posted their closest victory yet this season on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Smith Center and snuck past 52-49. The win made it back-to-back wins for Thomas More Prep-Marian.
Despite the loss, Smith Center saw an underclassman step up: Reed Doane scored 16 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Doane has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Joel Fagan, who scored five points along with three steals.
Thomas More Prep-Marian is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season. As for Smith Center, they bumped their record down to 2-6 with that loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Thomas More Prep-Marian will square off against Norton on Tuesday. Norton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Thomas More Prep-Marian in Kansas (Norton is ranked 68th, while Thomas More Prep-Marian is ranked 253rd). As for Smith Center, they will square off against Oakley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
