Southside has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Lejeune Devil Pups at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Southside's defense has only allowed 27.6 points per game this season, so Lejeune's offense will have their work cut out for them.
Last Tuesday, Southside earned a 37-25 victory over Jones. The victory was just what Southside needed coming off of a 66-24 defeat in their prior game.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southside to victory, but perhaps none more so than I'Kiriyah Minor, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamya Smith, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Lejeune's seven-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 41-0 victory over East Carteret on the road. Lejeune's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Lejeune's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Scarlett McLean, who scored nine points along with seven steals. Abigail Gonzales was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five blocks.
Southside's record is now 11-5. As for Lejeune, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-9.
Everything came up roses for Southside against Lejeune when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 52-24 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southside since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
