PikeView is 0-10 against Shady Spring since May of 2019 but things could change on Saturday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Tigers at 1:00 p.m. PikeView is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
PikeView is headed into Saturday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. They came up short against Sissonville, falling 9-1. The match marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Drew Damewood and Eli Hilling stepped up to the plate in a big way. Damewood got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run, while Hilling went 1-for-2 with one triple and one stolen base. Those stolen bases marked the first that Damewood has snagged this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shady Spring). Everything went their way against Midland Trail on Friday as they made off with a 25-1 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Noah Fox and Aiden Calvert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Fox pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Calvert pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Fox posted three strikeouts, the most he's had over his last three games. At the plate, Fox went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Calvert got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Shady Spring got a massive performance out of Cutter Boggs, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Boggs has become a key player for the Tigers: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-8-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Sam Barnett, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Shady Spring kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.9 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.8.
Shady Spring pushed their record up to 9-8-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.2 runs over those games. As for PikeView, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.
