The Altamont Indians won the last time they faced the Dieterich Movin Maroons, and things went their way on Friday too. Altamont narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Dieterich 42-40. That's two games straight that Altamont has won by exactly two points.
Altamont's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eli Miller led the charge by scoring 18 points along with three steals. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Kaidyn Miller, who scored eight points along with 15 rebounds and three blocks.
Dieterich's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lucas Westendorf, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Westendorf has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Landen Keck, who scored 13 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Altamont and bumps their season record up to 8-4. As for Dieterich, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5.
Altamont won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Woodlawn at 3:30 p.m. on January 6th. Woodlawn will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 465th, while Altamont is ranked 171st). As for Dieterich, they will head out on the road to face off against Odin/Patoka at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Odin/Patoka is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
