Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the South Point Red Raiders, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 28-27 to Statesville. South Point's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Despite the defeat, South Point had strong showings from Harrison McKinney, who rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns, and Patrick Blee, who rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries.
South Point's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Statesville, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
South Point does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Statesville will head out on the road to face off against Crest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Crest is on a six-game streak of home wins, Statesville a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
