2A-1 Region I District 2 recap October 22, 2013
Brownfield scaled the state rankings by moving to 711 from 778 this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region I District 2. The Cubs climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Slaton 21-14.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Denver City beat Idalou 35-21. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Lamesa's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Tornadoes feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Roger Martin has thrown for 876 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while Jahlahni Edwards has 22 catches for 221 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Lamesa takes on Denver City. The Tornadoes' offense has recorded 102 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Steve Taylor's team has permitted only 83 on the year.
The Wildcats are currently in third, while the Tigers are in second.
Lamesa lost to Kermit 37-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brandon Lozano was a bright spot for David Richey's team, as he ran for 71 yards and caught 1 pass for 11 yards in the defeat.
